The identity of the serial killer known as "Zodiac" has confounded investigators and “armchair experts” for over fifty years, but one unconventional theorist asks: what if the reason Zodiac has never been caught is because he never existed in the first place—what if the murders are all unrelated? As showrunner/director and on-camera investigator, I did a “boots on the ground” investigation of this wild theory. I revisited the crime scenes and reinterviewed law enforcement, witnesses, victims, friends, and experts on the Zodiac murders. We also created and ulitized a custom AI model to examine the Zodiac’s letters to the press and police to confirm whether they were actually written by one person…or not. This was a two part limited series true crime special that had over 60 million viewers for NBC/Universal’s Peacock streaming platform.
